Way of the Cross: Station 8

Jesus meets the Weeping Women of Jerusalem

This station compels us to consider the long-range implications of our actions, reminding us that if justice doesn’t come, we will all suffer for the lack of it. “Don’t weep for me,” Jesus tells the women of Jerusalem. “Weep for yourselves and your children if this society continues on the road that it is on.”

For Reflection: Do I recognize my contribution to injustice or do I blame those that society has labelled as “the problem”?

Prayer: Jesus, help me to hold together mercy and justice and to see the long view. Give me courage to stand with those who need allies and resolve to venture beyond what is to what can be.
