Learning and dialog beyond the service has always been an emphasis at Wanner. In fact, Wanner has been in the Sunday School business for over 100 years! (Don’t worry, the people have changed.) Sunday school is offered after the worship service for all ages. This time is designed to offer small group interactions where we get a chance to really explore how our faith connects with the rest of our life.
Programming For Children
Programming is provided for children and youth using the curriculum based on a series called Gather ‘Round. It’s Bible story-centred, with an emphasis on strengthening the connection between church and home, discipleship, and peace and justice issues.
One part educational, two parts social, and completely engaging. The Coffee class is a great way to get introduced to Wanner if you’re a newcomer. It’s kind of like the old Seinfeld theme - a class about nothing. And yet everything! Discuss the sermon, what’s going on in each other’s lives, what new programs the church should initiate … anything. And then there’s the coffee: weak, regular, and use a spoon variety.
The Canadian Mennonite is a monthly publication containing thought provoking articles on a wide range of issues that pertain to the church. In this discussion class, we read a chosen article and discuss the implications for us as individuals, our church, and the broader society. The discussion often highlights how a Christian (or more specifically, Mennonite) based perspective on the world varies from a secular perspective. And of course, no discussion begins until we’ve checked in on what’s going on in each other’s lives.
